Nile Cruise Luxor to Aswan Nov 02, 2009
It was April 2005 that I went on a Nile Cruise sailing from Luxor to Aswan. The boat was the Magic 2, very luxourious inside, but all the boats appear to be on the Nile, and you do get to see in them. The boats line up along side each other and once all the guests have got off to go on a trip they move and you find yourself walking through the middle of others to get back to yours, no one got left behind. The trips were always started very early in the morning due to the heat mid day. We visited the Luxor and Karnak Temple whilst in Luxor, were then driven by bus in a long convoy to Esna to get our boat. The boats all race to get there early so to get through the lock. There was only one lock but another was being built so I would of though that would be open now. As the boats fight to get through, you find kids shouting at you and throwing things up to the boats for you to look at in hope that you will buy something from them, this was quite fun, but the local security try to stop them. We arrived late evening at Edfu and did a bit of shopping taking a long time bartering to buy some fancy dress outfits for a dinner on the boat. Next morning loads of Kaleshes were taking people to the temple, the wheels were very wobbly! The temple was one of the most complete and I found very interesting as you do get a bit templed some days. Later that day we sailed to Kom Ombo seeing the mumified crocodiles! Aswan was our next stop, loved it! The unfinished Obelisk, Temple of Philae which was moved onto its new little island, The Old Cataract Hotel, Kitchener Island, Aswan Dam, Kalesh ride through the old market smelling all the spices. You can fly down all change boats and sail on down to Abu Simbel, we chose not to do this vowing we will go back and do that the next time. We made our way back to Luxor stopping off at the Valley of the Kings and Queens, it was so hot! We also went to the Temple of Hatshepsut, stunning and amazed at how big it is. We also did a hot air balloon flight over the valley of Kings and Queens we landed in the middle of nowhere but soon saw clouds of dust and a truck to take us back. We travelled through tiny little settlements seeing the animals living in the houses too! We returned back to Luxor, and met an Egyptian friend who took us to a nice little square with lots of snack bars, also to a few of the other hotels to take a look at how grand they are, not mention a bit more shopping for a kartouche.

Practice your bartering skills before you go, you can get some good bargains, have a laugh and make new friends.
