Some usefull things about Belgrade Airport and bus 72 Apr 12, 2011
When arriving at Belgrade's Nikola Tesla Airport, it's good to know where bus 72 departs from. It is not, as you would expect, outside the arrivals hall where someone has painted BUS in very large yellow letters on the street. At some point in time, a bus might arrive there, but then it probably won't be the one you're looking for or you will already have died of old age.
No, you have to take the stairs up one floor to the departure hall and go outside there. That is where you catch bus 72 to the city.
A ticket to the city will cost 100 dinar (120 going back for some strange reason). Buy it from the driver and don't forget to validate it.
To do this you put the ticket in a machine which does absolutely nothing on the first and second try. On the third try, you might consider tapping the damn thing, which will then punch a few holes in your ticket.
But you need money first, right? Well there's an exchange office in the arrivals hall. Just go the the right to where the car rental companies are. When you fly out again, don't follow the signs to the money exchange on the upper floor, because they will look at you in puzzlement and tell you to go downstairs and try your luck there.
Check-in for Wizz Air is not in the 'international departures' area. It's somewhere in the back where the domestic flights check in. But they are swift and friendly and if your carry-on luggage doesn't fit in the measuring thingy, they will gladly give it a push.
Security is quite relaxed and goes pretty fast since not that many flights depart per hour. Your carry-on bagage will be scanned again when you go through the gate. Why? I don't have a clue.
Nikola Tesla Airport is quite nice and unexpectedly modern. The only problem we encountered was leaving it.
