Night Train in Vietnam Jul 24, 2011
After the interesting night bus experience we are back on the “Nations Pride” for our final long night journey between Hue and Hanoi. Unfortunately the sleeping cabins on the train are already fully booked, but we are happy to sit down in a pair of single seats in the first class cabin. Although foreigners have to pay a special price, about three times as much as the standard price the price is still very reasonable. The cabin is joyful with large TV screens showing Vietnamese sitcoms on high volume. It’s a delight when the train rolls of in a steady pace without any turns or bumps on the track. I wake up in the middle of the night with a toe in my ear. It’s 3 am and the Vietnamese sitcom is still going strong. After determining that the toe belongs to my neighbor behind me I roll over and fall asleep again. 12 hours later we roll in on Hanoi station, night traveling by train is far more comfortable than bus in Vietnam.
