Niepołomice Castle Niepolomice Reviews
Castle, museum and hotel in one place Jun 03, 2011
The Royal Castle in Niepołomice is a really pretty gothic castle, often called a "Second Wawel" as it is in many ways similar to the famous castle in Cracow and it is set only one hour from Cracow.
The castle was initially built in XIV century and then rebuilt a few times.
Nowadays it is famous as:
1) a place where there is an expensive luxury hotel - prices start from 250 PLN up to 520 PLN for the night
2) museum with many of the most famous classic arts painted by polish artists such as Jan Matejko and also by many foreign artists.
The museum is open from 10.00 to 17.00.
Tickets cost from 6 to 8 PLN.
It is possible to have an english speaking guide. That servise costs additional 120 PLN.
More information is available at the site of the museum:
3) a place where one can rent renovated castle chambers, rooms, courtyard and basement to organise birthdays, weddings etc.
The castle is worth to see if someone spends a longer time in Cracow e.g. a whole week. It's not far away (1 hous by bus) and have really nice collections of art.
Of course it is also a nice place to spend a romantic weekend since it also contains hotel rooms, but because of the prices it should only interest people who don't afraid to spend a bit more money. The disadventage is that there are no night buses from Niepołomice to Cracow.
