Nidaros Cathedral Trondheim Reviews
The biggest church in town Apr 01, 2015
The Nidarosdommen is the most important church in Norway - it was build on top of Olav the Holy’s grave. Olav rule was based in the city of Nidaros which is present day Trondheim and he managed to unite most of Norway while he was promoting Christianity in the country. The present church grew up around his grave and became a place attracting pilgrims from northern Europe to visit his holy bones. The church started out small but during several centuries of construction the church slowly grew and became a big cathedral.
Today the church is the location for many royal events and the main church in Norway. When a new king accent to the throne he has to go to this church to receive a blessing.
The church is big and impressive inside especially the windows with the many colours are impressive and worth to look at. Unfortunately there are no photos allowed within the church so I didn’t get any photos of the amazing windows.
Supposedly you can get to the crypt and the tower - but they were closed when we visited since it is still low season.
You can buy a ticket just for the cathedral for 80 NOK around 9 euro or you can go for a combination ticket for 160 NOK which covers the cathedral, arch bishop palace and a museum of the history of the cathedral and the arch bishop palace.
