Nicker's Bar? Nov 07, 2009
If you want to wallow in Americana, do I have a restaurant for you. Nick’s Diner is nestled in the heart of downtown Wilmington and only lacks a shiny trailer to complete the perfect replica of diners from days gone by (being downtown, there are no options beyond the regular brick façade). The primary attraction is Nick’s splendid menu, featuring numerous variations on hamburgers, typically beefed up with additional fatty substances (e.g., bacon, bleu cheese). Selections are not limited to burgers however, and you can order a variety of sandwiches and salads. My wife and I stopped in tonight before a jazz concert and Kim relished tonight’s special of chicken cordon bleu, reinforcing the diversity (I simply savored a bacon burger, though – YUM!).

Nick’s serves drinks and features an awesome bar shaped like a Stratocaster guitar, which shouldn’t be surprising since they are open 24 hours across the weekends (being located in Wilmington’s bar nirvana, they also do a brisk business serving late-night drunks trying to sober up). We’ve eaten here multiple times, mainly because the service is fantastic. Every server we’ve ever had has been intelligent, enthusiastic and attentive without being smothering. This evening’s first, however, was that Kim ordered a cup of coffee and was utterly delighted – she got a HUGE mug of delicious brew (we asked why it was so good and learned it was Kona coffee).

Between the funky interior (they feature local artist creations for sale), the sinful menu and five-star service, Nick’s never fails to satisfy. There is also a small outdoor section to sit and enjoy pedestrian traffic during warmer months, as if everything else wasn’t enough. If you find yourself in Wilmington and hankering for some beef or good times, let me suggest this joint to rescue you in the Nick of time!

Hahahaha a big mug of coffee is also a "sin" now ;D I read many articles that tell us to reduce our consumption of it. Lucky me I am a tea person ;D

Yanti - I am only using 'sinful' to indicate that they do not feature "healthy" selections (not a place to visit if you are on a diet!).

:^)
