Indoor amusement park! Jan 11, 2009
Nickelodean Universe is an indoor amusement park at the Mall of America. It used to be Camp Snoopy and then had no name for a long time. It now has several new rides, including 2 new rollercoasters. Most of the rides remain the same, but have new names. I have only been on one ride, the Spongebob Squarepants rollercoaster, since the theme switchover.
The original rollercoaster still exists, but is pretty tame. Another new rollercoaster has cars that seat 4, and then the car spins (like a tilt-o-whirl) as the car goes on the track. And then the Spongebob rollercoaster goes almost straight up and straight down. It is really fun. As is typical with most rides - they are too short. The log flume is another favorite, complete with big splash at the end. There is a ferris wheel, flying swings, and several rides I don't know a common name for.
The one that you ride up a tower and then it drops. The one that's like a pirate ship, only the seats spin. The one that you sit on a platform and it swings up and around in a big vertical circle. The one like the octopus only the arms go up and down in a circle...
There are also several kiddie rides, I guess the park is for kids, but I just like all the grown up rides :) Make sure you eat AFTER and not BEFORE you jump in Spongebob's Pineapple house (for kids only). There are several shows and character meetings every day. We even got to "meet" Spongebob.
The rides are expensive if you buy single tickets. $5-6 for the rollercoasters. If you buy a wristband for $30, you have unlimited riding all day. Or, if you go after 5 pm, the wristband is half price. Sometimes when it is slow, some of the rides aren't operating. I prefer going when it is slower so you don't wait in line as long. But really, you are waiting (and riding) inside, out of the heat, cold or rain so you can't complain too much. Plus you can ride in winter when its snowing! At night, the lights come on the rides so it feels like you are at an outdoor carnival.
