Here I have a few nice places for travellers to hang out while in montreal and to meet great people..
The first one is a small resto/bar/chilloutplace called L,UTOPIK Its downtown at the BERRI UQAM metro station. When you are in the metro, at Berri Uqam, get out at the exit Ste-Catherine (street), the Utopik is on Ste-Catherine street, you have to cross the street and walk left. 20 steps later, if you look carefully, you will see the glass door with the very (too) little sign Utopik (handmade). You get in and go up the stairs.. This place is full of relaxed and layed back people who want to enjoy good company and food (organic and some vegetarian). You can also have a beer or 2 there. Its very nice. The second place i heart in Montreal is the bar called : El Zazbar. It,s located on St-Denis street, a little bit south under Mont-Royal. You can take the Mont-Royal metro and when you get out (only one exit) turn left (its Mont-Royal street). Walk a minute and at the light turn left (its st-Denis street). Walk 5-7 minutes. (its on your lefthand side of the street). Its my favorite place to hang out and drink at night. All kinds of music are played there : old rock classics, french quebequers music, indian, popular pop songs of the hour..... etc. A good melting pot of everything for everyone. The crowd is also very layedback and multicultural(from 18 to 35years old). If you go there, say hello for me to the waiter called Guillaume (he,s the one with the cowboy hat). If you want to have some quiet time in the shade, you can go at the Carre St-Louis (on St-Denis). To get there, you just have to walk up St-Denis from the Berri Uqam metro (st-Denis exit). It will be on your left hand side, 15 to 20 minutes of walking north. Still on St-Denis (well I must just love this street!), you can go eat at the Zyng, a nice asian place. I would put asian in brackets because its more of an american asian place.. (there are many Zyngs in Montreal and in the US) You can count 15 to 20 dollars for a meal. Good ambiance, small place, great montrealers. :) I recommend the chicken General Tao (the best I,ve ate so far in my life) or ask for the make it yourself meals (just say no never came to the Zyng before and they will explain to you how it works). Anyways, love this place! Final stop on a must-do list : the Mont-Royal Tam Tam.. All summer long, every Sunday, hundreds of people gather on the Mont Royal to chill out in the sun, have fun with friends, play frisbee and tam tam. This is really a thing you consider doing on a Sunday if you want to relax and waste a day in the sun :) (to me, the best way of wasting a day in the sun! hehe) To go, just ask directions to any Montrealer.. they will show you the way. There, these are my tips on living nice days in Montreal... Hope you will enjoy :) Peace, Respect and Love to all. |
