the grand dame of cote d'azur.....has glorious architecture a superb palm-lined Promenade des Anglais and access to truly beautiful villages. The water is a deep blue and the hills are a light beige, the sun , the sea , the laid-back affable nicois, the italianate facades of modern Nice. enjoyed wandering the outdoor markets along Cours Saleya (Nice's famous market area), everyday the market are full of flowers, fresh vegetables and fruits produce directly from ...

We got up early today in order to get a full day of sightseeing in. We decided we would go walk around Old Nice and also go to Monte Carlo to see all the lavish yachts. We were very proud of ourselves because this was the first day in Nice where we did not have any problems figuring out the transportation. We got on all the right trains, got off at all the right bus stops, everything was perfect.
First, we went to Monte Carlo. We got off the train and we couldn't figu...

I woke up late this morning. Yes, I was out late with Cindy. It was an interesting night. I think I returned to my hotel at 5 or 6 in the morning. Anyway, I'll talk about meeting Cindy for the first time and my night out. I took an hour nap before meeting my friend. We were suppose to meet outside of the hotel, but right after I was done getting ready, I heard someone ring the bell at the reception desk and speaking French and then someone knocked on my doo...

Today we decided to stay in Nice and explore the city. My room was only 30 euros for the night and breakfast was included. I met some people at the breakfast room, including two ladies from ottawa. I was giving them travel advice for the area as if I was a pro at this :)
I met Marissa at the Marc Chagall museum in the morning. I'm not a huge art lover but after going to this museum, I think I might be converted. It was amazing! l'll put some of the pictures below. It's hard to explain w...

On our last day of sightseeing the drivers were still on strike so we got the one and only train as far as Menton, near the Italian border. The little train station is surrounded by mandarin trees, all in full fruit and glorious in their colour against the nearby hills. Today we just wandered around the town, down one street and up another alley, stopping for a coffee and pastry when the urge caught us. We walked as high up as the cathedral and as far down as the Coctea...

A very interesting trip going it alone, with a few small mishaps... but everything worked out fine in the end. Met a lot of nice people in all places traveled, kept meeting people from London in practically all of my destinations... everyone was friendly and everyone was usually very friendly and willing to help. I would definately recommend staying more nights in each destination than I did, but it ws still exciting to move at that pace too.

This is more of a filler than anything, but the last day in Nice was very relaxing too - and I'm very glad I did it. Late that evening I caught an overnight train up to Paris, to spend 4 days there. By this time, I was doing much better with my french!

Montpellier - the best city for students in France!!
Vivid, close to the ocean, relaxed atmosphere, great location for trips either to Spain or other sites in France.
If u have the Chance visit this area .. . its a lot better than the Côte d'Azur where even the waiters are arrogant and you will have a hard time finding a real French

We spent the majority of the day travelling and arrived into Nice in the evening. The hostel that we were staying at is one of those “Europe’s Famous Hostels” and we were staying at Villa St. Exupery. Well it turns out this hostel is actually kind of out of the city and you have to take a bus to the end of the line and then call the hostel and they will send someone into the city to pick you up. So even though it was a famous hostel we kind of got the raw end of the deal as the room we ...

Holy moly I get tired just looking at this picture. The museums in Nice are very small and very remote. I can barely remember this excursion, but I remember walking along these streets from the city center of Nice, trekked up a hill in order to get on a bus, and then walked through a park of some sort to find this strange pink building in the middle of nowhere. The entire museum is probably the size of a small Pottery Barn in the states, but the art was fantastic. Unfortunately pictures were n...

Nice is one of my favorite cities in the world (and I have seen a lot of cities!!!!). All the best of south France you can find here! Superb nice (now you understand the real meaning of the word Nice.... = Nice France) wines, beautifull veggie markets, sweets and honey, olive oils, beautifull beach and... maybe the most beautifull woman of France (well.... exept some Parisiennes.....). Eat outside at a terrace, enjoying french-italian cuisine, drink their slobby wines, eat their sweets.... en...

Besides, the weather is actually quite miserable, as I'm experiencing my first days of spotty rain and overcast skies in weeks. I actually like cold weather but here it's super muggy and sticky, though the ocean still looks lovely. People aren't kidding when they talk about the pebbly beaches, except the pebbles are more like rocks the size of my fists. It's really kind of neat to see the thousands and thousands of rocks stretching along the coastline like any other beach.
So far I...

The first time I wen to Nice, I didn't like it too much. Probably because it was Sunday, and everything was closed and it was after spending two intense weeks traveling all over Italy. This time, I really enjoyed visiting Nice.
