No phone, no credit cards, no fixed menu, no wine list. Sounds scary, doesn't it?
But I would visit Nice just because of La Merenda. Dominique Le Stanc (former Le Chantecler's chef) is running his own place. For a modest 100 EUR you can get a superb Niçoise dinner for two. No strangers here.

Serving ice cream and sorbet, I’m sure you’d be hard pressed to find anything better than Fenocchio’s. Nice has two Fenocchio locations, both which were incredibly busy on the hot day we spent there. With 96 flavours to choose from, you’ll spend some time deciding on which ones sound most …

I give this place a four star rating, because it is definately one of my favourite places to eat. Late on 2005 when we were totally sick of cafeteria food, we used to go have dinner in this place (in Sophia Antipolis) almost every night. their pizzas are great, in fact we usually ate a pizza each, a…

This resturant looks like a typical pasta/pizza place set in the heart of Nice's old town but once seated by the nice friendly staff, and choosen the food and drink, it is time to have a look around on whats going on in the old town. Musican's will come up to you,
some samba acts to watch while yo…

This is a tiny crêperie tucked away two streets from the famous Avenue Jean Medecin. The food is consistently delicious and super diverse, you could eat there every night of your trip and not repeat yourself. All the crepes have crazy names: la gueucheleuleu, la mexicaine, la gogoli gogoli.

Hmmm, bad thing. As I was there in October, I haven't found Castel Plage anymore ... that's not completely right ... I've found the location but it wasn't there anymore ;-).
I think they've removed the restaurant for the winter time. Is that possible? Just have a look at the photo, I think I have…

First time in Nice and first dining experience in this beautiful city... It was end of the autumn, late in the evening, so not all restaurants were open.
The menu list at the restaurant Al Battolo is not very varied, so between pasta, pizza and ribs I chose spaghetti bolognese. All I can say abou…

If you're in the old town for lunch, you must try the local specialties on the go. Socca is a flat chick-pea "crepe" served hot with fresh ground pepper. One of the most famous Socca to be had is Chez Teresa, at the market every day.
Pissaladière is an onion pie, with or without anchovies. Sound…

Last week I would have had nothing but good things to say about this chain of restaurants with a location on the Cours Saleya in Nice (and 2 on the Champs Elysées in Paris).
They serve standard fare, entrées, pasta, bistrot style meat and their specialty is all you can eat beef or salmon carpac…
