Nice Camélias Reviews
It's got a palm tree in the courtyard guys! What more does one possibly want?! Oct 22, 2014
Whoever said the French Riviera was all about relaxing and chilling and soaking in the Mediterranean sun obviously ensured that YHA Camelias designers were listening. Because seriously, this hostel is the real deal.
Located in the heart of Nice, right behind the Nice Etoile shopping mall on the Avenue Jean Medicin (the heart of Nice's affairs and a stone's throw from the Old Town), this hostel really is a perfect blend of commercial and yet the coziness one associates a "hostel" with.
The entry to the hostel is the famed palm tree which is part of the courtyard. The reception is part of the bar and restaurant where free breakfast (cereal, bread and jam) is served. The hostel actually has a lift! And something that causes a lot of maintenance costs for the hostel (based on what one receptionist told me) but something that travellers love.
The rooms are clean, bunker beds don't creak. the only problem I had was the ensuite bathroom yet toilets on the outside. When one bloke would shower, the entire room would be awake thanks to the noise!
Breakfast is good but basic - great coffee though!
Finally, the free internet works only on the ground floor but it's free, so who cares?!
The kitchen is decently big, but I wish they'd keep more cutlery as there was an eternal shortage. Plus, this is the only place I've seen where folks are requested to place their kitchen items in big brown paper bags (not sufficient if you just label your fridge items).
Overall, very nice hostel - great opportunities to socialise and the reception staff is very very helpful!
