Into Nha Trang

I rented a 125 cc motorbike for 45,000 Dong (US$3) and followed Highway 1 inland skirting the hills south of Nha Trang. Roadside buildings, storefronts, and city traffic gradually gave way to thatch-roofed farm houses and small banana plantations. Traffic became busses, heavy trucks hauling cargo or sugar cane, and ox-drawn carts. Dark green rice paddies were speckled by the yellow cone-shaped hats of squatting peasant workers. My rented Suzuki rattled along the road's edge at ...

After breakfast I walked down along the beach. It was fairly empty and so much more pleasant. I sat down on the edge of a wall and was approached by a guy who tried to sell me a motorcycle trip up the coast. It looked interesting and he seemed nice so I looked at his information. He had a book with pictures and descriptions and nice reference from a couple who had traveled with him. Even if I didn't already have a set trip, as a solo female, I wouldn't have done it. But it's a really cool ide...

Left India late night, the airport in chennai was chaotic, apparently it was wrong to visit the place just after the tsunami.  anyway, happy to be on the seat of the plane that takes me to Bangkok and fly to Saigon to head off to Nha Trang - my new temporary home (despite my friend protesting my move It still excites me)! Anyway, arrived Saigon (Ho Chi Mihn City) around 2pm.  Apparently I have to collect my luggage to load it for my plane to Nha trang.  Nha Trang is by the way...

Brian and I have made some good friends on this ship and together we have all become celebrities! There are 8 of us, another couple from Washington DC and a couple from Scotland and couple from Australia (Coff's Harbor, no less). We are the party people on the boat and we have singlehandedly kept some of these activities going! :) After leaving Nha Trang and having dinner we met our friends in Club Fusion, the big nightclub on board. Every night Deep Blue plays and from the first night when ...

Finally seeing the ocean

After a few days we left Da Lat behind and travelled to Nha Trang. Another 6 hours of enjoying the scenery. :) I was looking forward to see the ocean... I love the ocean. Its immenseness, its beauty, its hidden mysteries, it's smell of  distance and of far away places. :)So I was absolutely excited... again. :D We arrived at the hotel and I was happy that the beach was just in front of the place. I had an ocean view room. It's so amazing to live by the beach.  The room was pretty ni...

Ok, so theres a typhoon heading towards Vietnam...hmm should be interesting. I'm catching a night bus tonight to head further north to Hoi An, I should get there by 6 in the morning.I have been pretty lazy today I checked my email, an hour at the beach, bought a few mp3s for my mp3 player. I choose the arcade fire, smashing pumpkins, placebo, idlewild and many others for just about over a US dollar each. These should help for the monster bus journey tonight, that reminds me I better go and bu...

As I popped down to Phan Rang bus station, I was asked for an extorted price of 100,000 dong for the journey to Nha Trang, whereas usually it should only be 50,000. I bargained but failed to get the price at 50,000 as they just walked away and ignored me, so I settled on 70,000.After yet another scenic bus ride from Phan Rang Thap Cham, I settled in at Phu Quy Hotel, for $8 a night I had the luxury of aircon YAY! HEHEHEHAfter lunch, I walked to the beach as it was only a street away. W...

After waking up feeling pretty groggy from the beers the night before, I had the realisation that I had booked on a boat trip and would have to spend the day socialising. It didn't appeal. I made it on time, though, and after the first activity, snorkelling (which I hate), I woke up and snapped out of it. Snorkelling was typically disappointing (didn't see anything apart from fish.) I was a bit hesitant about the Mama Linh's boat trip, cos the way it was advertised it sounded a little Butlin...

People i met here, who contributed to and improved my trip: Juliana (Russia), Patrick (Canada), Debbie (England), Lucy (England) We spent our first day in Nha Trang strolling along the sea front and enjoying the baking sunshine. For the first time, it really felt like the weather matched that what i expected from South East Asia. That night we went out to celebrate Debbie's birthday, all be it a day late. We found a really great Bar called 'Why Not' Bar where beers and double spirits with mi...

The second day of our visit to Nha Trang, we went to the boat rental and have a private boat just for us (me and another 4 friends). We were planning to go snorkelling on the seashore of Mun Island. On the way there, we passed one of this aquarium (something like seaworld but in a smaller scale). So we stopped in the aquarium (Tri Nguyen Aquarium) and looked at several fishes which amaze me because of the size. There was one awara fish, weigh about 50 kilos and she's only 5 years old. The gui...

This was my very first time going back to Vietnam since I was 3 years old.  The flight doesn't go straight to Nha Trang, but to a little airport in nearby Cam Ranh and you have to take a 25 minute taxi ride to the city.  The view on the way to the city was beautiful, you see clear blue water and a bunch of islands while driving on a curvy mountain road.  The locals all drive little mopeds/scooters and they all drive crazy, which is still an understatement.  There is ...

Three Days in Nha Trang

Decided to get the night bus up to Nha Trang as we didn't fancy wasting an entire day sweating our arses in a packed out bus. Took 20mg of Valium each to help us along too! And it paid off; we slept through pretty much the entire journey :) We rolled up in Nha Trang in the early hours of the morning and hit the streets looking for a place to stay. We really should have booked beforehand as it was the Tet weekend. This meant a shortage of choices and hugely hiked up prices. After an ...
