Ngu Phong Guesthouse - Reviews - Hue

Once again we eschewed the Lonely Planet recommendations and instead trusted in the clamouring hotel touts shouting “air con, hot water, free breakfast, free internet”! In our experience the LP recommendations are now over-priced with lack-lustre service, while we have been extremely pleased by our potluck strategy. This was no exception; tucked away on a side street a few metres from the main thoroughfare of Pham Ngu Lao. The room was very comfortable with heaps of space, huge solid single beds and comfortable mattresses. We had ensuite, hot water, free breakfast, free internet and TV. Sadly I can’t remember the price but usually we didn’t pay more than $5/6/night. It was right opposite the legendary Café on Thu Wheels and a short walk from the river (and the Mandarin Café which incidentally has moved location). The only downside to Hué is the lack of nightlife; despite this being backpacker-land we were hardly spoiled for choice for places to eat or drink unless we wanted to walk.
