On Sunday, we got up in time for the continental breakfast at the hotel.  They had a room set up upstairs with tables and a buffet-like setup,  with fruit, cereal, pastries, muffins, bagels toast, etc. and a waffle machine with cups of batter lined up, you just poured in on and waited 2 minutes. We ate our fill, and took some apples and banannas for the hike later. Some of our group went across the street for a more traditional breakfast at the restaurant.  We joined them as th...

With an earlier start this morning, we went to the visitor center in Newport and bought a pass to visit 5 mansions. We also took the trolley for transportation which ended up being a waste. It was nice for the drive to the 1st mansion but then you had to wait around for what seemed like an eternity to catch it again, so we ended up walking and only saw 3 mansions. The 1st one was the ELMS that was a self guided audio tour. Elms was built in 1901 for a coal baron. This was actually my fav...

A trip into Newport, the missing sunset and GREAT pics
posted by:
Aug 24, 2006 - Aug 30, 2006
We decided today to take a trip into Newport, RI which is probably one of my favorite New England places. Of course we weren't even out of Milford and we had taken a wrong turn and ended up in Warwick, RI among other places along the way and what should have been a 1 1/2 hour trip turned into much longer, lol. Once again we saw some cute little towns that we wouldn't have seen otherwise. I had been to Newport 2 times before once in the spring/summer of 03 or 04 and fo...

Day One--Evening

I checked out of my hostel this morning and trekked over to my car to leave my backpack.  Then I headed back up the hill to Bellevue Avenue and the mansions.  First on the list: Chateau-Sur-Mer which while still very impressive, is not as overwhelming as the Breakers and Marble House.  The downstairs rooms are built to impress but the upstairs was built for everyday living.  The decor of the dining room sticks out the most in my mind.  The designs around the fireplace...

I wish that I could tell you all about my trip to Italy after I graduated from college, but unfortunately, it was another failed attempt to get back across the ocean.  My neighbor offered up taking a trip to Rhode Island instead.  I hadn't been there since I was a little kid and she was in New England withdrawal, being from Connecticut.  So, we were off to Newport to celebrate my graduation and Danielle's birthday.  We spent a good amount of time checking out some of ...

Side Trip from Boston, June 2006
posted by:

A Sunday afternoon in Boston, and after having missed the bus on Saturday, we managed to get on the bus at the correct time, and we went off to Newport, Rhode Island. We chose this location because my dad lived there like a hundred years ago (he was stationed there for awhile when he was in the Navy) and also, it was different. I really had no idea what I was doing, but Newport is what I would call a quaint town. It's adorable and fun to walk the streets in, but I can't imagine why on earth ...

Eisenerhower House in Newport, R.I.

Eisenhower House is a historic late nineteenth-century home that served as the residence for the Commandant of Fort Adams. Newport architects George C. Mason and Son designed the house in 1873, and General Henry Jackson Hunt was the first in a long line of military officers to live here. The most famous resident was President Dwight D. Eisenhower, for whom the house is named. President Eisenhower vacationed here during the late summer of 1958 and 1960. At first, the president was quartered a...

Besides travelling the world, I also believe that the place you call home can hold some of the most expectacular beauty if you know where to look. This is the case with the US, 50 states with as much to offer as any country in the world. East coast to west coast, north to south, it is as different as night and day each with their own unique culture. There's something for everyone here! I offer you a very small peak of my incredible journey through this land I call home!
