Newburgh Overview

Newburgh is a town of about 28,700 (up slightly since 2000) located at the intersection of Interstates 84 and 87 in Orange County in Southern New York. It is not far from the borders with Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Connecticut. Explorers noted the area as early as 1609 but the first settlers came in 1709 and were mostly from Germany. By the mid-1700s, however, the English and Scottish settlers outnumbered the German ones. Newburgh played an important role in the American Revolution. Newburgh has been rated as one of the most dangerous towns in the country due to its crime rate.

While in Newburgh, you may want to check out the motorcycle museum and Orange County Choppers from the television show on Discovery then TLC.
