Money Train Nostalgia in Brooklyn Oct 06, 2011
With both of my niece and nephew in town to visit over the summer, I decided to travel with them to the New York Transit Museum located at Boerum Place and Schermerhorn Street in Brooklyn. They both enjoyed travelling via subway and I literally saw their eyes lit up with excitement when they saw the old subway cars at the museum. With lots of kid friendly interactive exhibits, the time goes by really quickly at the museum. I particularly enjoyed knowing about the history of how the subways were built, the money train and the exhibit about the various types of turnstiles installed in the subway stations over the years. Seeing the subway cars from the 1900s that had no air-conditioning, had we wondering how people manage during the summer. The New York City Transit Museum is really a learning center and you can spend lots of time in this place, so pack food and drinks for the kids. The New York City Transit Museum is worth a visit for both children and adults, there is something to please everyone.
