Great Deal May 27, 2009
I stayed two nights in this 4-star hotel and paid only 36 Euros in total. Okay, the hotel's location is not perfect (it's at least a 20 minutes taxi ride to downtown), but the value is still hard to top. There are a couple of smaller eateries and stores within walking distance, and the upscale Coastal City Shopping Mall is only a short taxi ride away. The Shenzhen Bay Port Passenger Terminal, which offers cross-border bus service to Hong Kong, is in the same area as well. When using Shenzhen as a launch pad into Hong Kong, the hotel's location is not so bad after all.
My room was quite big and came with a flat-screen TV and free internet. The connection was fast enough to surf the web, but the upload was painstakingly slow - most of the time my connection timed out. Breakfast was included in the room rate, but the selection was not great, and the food quality was average at best. Given the room rate, I did not mind at all. There is a small pastry shop close by, that offers yummy alternatives. All in all a great low-cost hotel option - I would stay there again any time.  Part of the Asia 2009 travel blog

At about 2:30 PM it was time to head for China. Grabbed my gear from the left luggage check at the West Hotel and walked with a group towards the MTR station. We went via the Tsuen Wan Line (Cheung Sha Wan Station) to the Kwun Tong line …… Crossing into China |
