New Orleans Pharmacy Museum Reviews
Haunting, Creepy & Cool - Take the Tour! Nov 03, 2015
I recommend highly if you are going to pay a visit to the Pharmacy Museum that you must take the tour! Guided tours are given Tuesday through Friday at 1:00PM. The admission price is $5.00.
The museums artifacts would be an interesting read but overall would mean very little without taking the tour. The mission of the museum, as per their website, is "To further interest in the history of pharmacology and promote its future development...” Let's just say you will leave the tour with a much great appreciation for modern day medicine and practices.
Our guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining even though the information he gave us on 19th century medical practices was frightening! Without giving too much away this tour is not for the squeamish. You will learn about the early times of modern medicine, which relied highly on bloodletting, potions and tonics and surgeries performed without anesthesia. The Museum is centrally located in the French Quarter and should not be missed when visiting New Orleans.

Strange and Unique Musuem Aug 31, 2012
I was turned on to this place by our tour guide. Who knew that the history of Pharmacy's were so interesting?
Did you know that Pharmacists used to treat patients? And that often these treatments were backwards and dangerous like bloodletting with leeches?
The museum itself is pretty small but has a extensive collection of historic items and located in a beautiful historic building in the French Quarter. They have guided tours Thurs and Friday at noon that are highly recommended. Our guide Matt really knew his stuff.
