The No Fun part
posted by:

Saturday, April 15th     We were up early, as had been our habit on this trip. This was pretty early in the season, so the nights were still arriving early and they were a bit to cold to do much. Especially so, with two young kids along. It was much easier to go to bed early, and then start the day early.   We were heading home today, with the goal of getting to Cortez. Some people disagree, maybe most disagree, but traveling more than 8 hours per day, by car, is too much...

A few days in ABQ

It's hard to write about a trip in which so much of the activity was family related. On Friday I did get some time to go exploring, so I headed down to Old Town and the Plaza in downtown Albuquerque.  A nice area, but I have to admit I liked the plaza in Santa Fe much better from an earlier trip I had made several years ago.  Also wandered down along the Rio Grande for a bit.  In the  evening (after free drinks at the hotel - see review) went to the Sandia ...

El Mal Pais
posted by:
Aug 18, 2004 - Aug 21, 2004
Due to our late start we drove straight through deciding to take a break in New Mexico.  I've been to New Mexico twice before and remember I loved the state.  There is so much open beauty in the southwest its a whole other world.  We chose El Mal Pais National Monument for our stop (actually about 72 miles west of Albuquerque), the road map we had showed it looking like a good place to stretch our legs.  So that's exactly what we did.  The park was amazing.&...

Day 22 - Zuni
posted by:
May 25, 2006 - Jul 21, 2006
Today was the ride into Zuni, NM. It was really cool because it was such a long trip- a 105 mile day, but a lunch at the New Mexico border really helped the day feel shorter. This marks the fourth state on our journey so far and it promises to be another good one. As soon as we got into New Mexico we started seeing the mesas that the state is so famous for. The people of Zuni were very friendly, we were met by the Zuni Police at the edge of the reservation and it was reassuring that they were...

DREAM DESTINATION: Act 3, Scene 4 - Santa Fe New Mexico: Santa Fe Travel Photos
posted by:

History, religion, artsy, unique architecture and earthy colors would be words that creep into a description of Santa Fe. Oh, and "deep-pockets" also; the artisans here are very accomplished so the market price for their work reflects an appreciation of their skill. Otherwise, it's a great place to spend the day in the plaza, visiting the galleries and churches or just walking around!
