Our first day in Amsterdam

Amsterdam, Netherlands -› -› ...
Yesterday we got lucky! Today it has been raining all day long. It is funny how annoying could be for us, and how Dutch people don´t even notice it. We already had seen the weather forecast a few days ago, so we decided to do some cultural visits. First thing we did was to  visit the Rijks Museum as it is the most famous and largest in the country with more than a million visitors each year. Forget about taking photos there, they make you leave everything in a locker before...

In Holland Prostitution and drugs like mushrooms and weed are legal. The shops where they sell the drugs are called coffee shops and you will find plenty of them all around the city. Seems business is running quite well :) You can also buy seeds to grow your own plants or mushrooms. We walked along the streets and we were talking about all these drugs and the fact that cocain is illegal. Whilst talking we passed a guy and he obviously evesdropped our conversation and walked towards us and wis...

On Saturday, we needed pancakes, and we went to the Pancake corner on Leidseplein.  Oh, my goodness.  Well, I'll do you a review, but if we just say that I don't think any of us even thought about lunch?  Highly recommended.  The service was even OK. N, T and C all wanted to go to the Anne Frank House.  I really didn't - I never really recovered from the school trip to Auswitch, and an hour in a line didn't appeal either.  So I wandered off with a promise that t...

As soon as we passed the Dutch border, the sun broke trough the clouds and led us al the way. In all honosty I have to say, we had one little shower near Rotterdam as well. But for the first time today, we had  the sun we were desperately longing for. In the Netherlands, it had been raining large parts of the day as well. Moisture was still in the air. Somewhere between Breda and Rotterdam therefore, we were treated to some very nice rainbows. With the sun and the rainbows, plus my affe...

What shall I tell you? I don't like to write because I can't express myself good enough in English or Dutch. And besides that I don't like to make some people jealous with my stories about the meeting how great, fun, tremendous, enormous, fabulous et cetera it was. Maybe you can view the pictures of my 'blog' and ofcourse don't forget to read and view the other 'blogs' from the people who join this great event... I want to thank all the TBs who joined Lauros Meetup. www.travbuddy.com/s...

Why did we fly back to Amsterdam? Blake can tell you because Amsterdam is the greatest city in the world. I can tell you this, we were planning on going to Rome, Italy after Ireland but after seriously rationalizing, it would have been a bad move. 1. The trip was going by fast, and not enjoying the time spent in all of our travels sucked so becoming more familiar with amsterdam was agreed by both of us 2. We have already dropped 5 grand already, both of us had at that point. Partying like ...

Rotterdam via London (to catch up with Suzie)
posted by:
May 27, 2007 - Aug 18, 2007
I had about 4 hours sleep and then had a flight to London to meet Suzie. I met Suzie in the restaurant and I wasn’t in a good way, I’m not going out drinking like that before a flight again. Suzie managed to get the seat next to me on the plane which was cool. Its not everyday you can go flying somewhere with your sister (I realize it’s the 3rd time but the other 2 weren’t commercial flights).I got to Rotterdam about 30 minutes early and then had to wait about an hour before my rent ...

Koninginnedag, or Queens day, is a Dutch holiday celebrating the Queen’s birthday. It’s celebrated yearly on April 29th or 30th which is not actually the present Queen’s birthday. It’s her mothers birthday, but she decided to keep the holiday on that day as a tribute to her mom. How sweet. Queen’s Day is basically a big party. A big party where everyone in the Netherlands gets drunk and wears orange. Partying starts the previous night, Koninginnenacht. You party all night th...

Schiphol is the Netherlands main airport. Located 20 minutes (17.5 km) south-west of Amsterdam, Schiphol is a European main port.   In 2006, Schiphol ranked fourth in Europe in terms of passenger traffic.   Schiphol is the home base of KLM (Royal Dutch Airlines), Martin air and Transavia, and a hub for United States based Northwest Airlines.   I really like Schiphol airport.  I it is easy to spend 4 hours here.   If I want I can go shop...

I am a single girl, when you are single mostly a lot of people around you think that you are sad or lonely. For the people who think that: never think that we ar sad! There are so many benefits about being single: - You can do whatever you want without you have to justify everything - You can go wherever you want without having discussions where to go - You meet new people much quicker, sometimes it looks like single-travellers have some kind of radar for other single-travellers. - You...

Barendrecht is situated between Rotterdam and the river Oude Maas. Being a part of the Riederwaard, Barendrecht used to exist of three manors: Carnisse, West- and East-Barendrecht. The oldest document that speaks of Barendrecht, is a deed dated 18 Feb 1264 AD. In it the foundation of a church in Barendrecht belonging to the Abbey of Saint Paul in Utrecht was descriped. At present Barendrecht has about 45,000 inhabitants. They live in one of two distinctive parts separated by hi...
