So after I present to you… The Netherlands I give you part 2.. I present to you.. My town Uden.. My town is not very interesting for tourists I think, we don’t have really big sights or attractions, but it’s an average Dutch town so that does make it interesting for others at the same time.. (It does make sense in my head trust me.. on paper it just looks strange) My town  does have a lot of visits from foreigners but mostly people who stay in the area for a while because of thei...

I try to write a blog about the Amsterdam meet up ... The trip started with some problems! Friday, the day before, I had a nice party in Heerlen ... The day after I was "vommit" (Sylvie maybe you can translate it) from the alcohol :( Pff, when the alarm went at 09.00, I was a little bit ill and wanted to skip the meeting, especially the "9 straatjes" appointment with Marloes. It was too early, haha! After travelling with train, bus (because of some work on the track) and train I arrived 3...

A Long, Long Day Continues
posted by:
Aug 01, 2008 - Aug 04, 2008
On Monday morning I was up in good time, as I needed to pack, and I also wanted to stoke up at the Hotel's breakfast buffet, as it was going to be a long day, with my flight not leaving Schipohl until ten in the evening. After checking out I carried my bags up to the train station, where there were some left-luggage lockers, and then set about doing some food shopping. Not much, since it would have to fit into my cabin baggage, but a friend had told me that I would love stroopwafels, and so o...

Leeuwarden, Netherlands -› -› ...
Monday was meant to be a day for touring round Friesland by car, but everyone was far too tired, so it was basically checkout then lunch then goodbye, but only after Bret, Jos, Alex and myself had a breakfast/coffee at Het Broodhuis (Brett's house). They have delicious toasties and an even more delicious waitress, so just as well that neither Ket nor the Portugeezer were there. I wanted an extra day in the Netherlands so I was staying Monday night as well before flying back late on Tuesday, s...

The Ikea experience
posted by:
Jan 19, 2008 - Aug 07, 2008
This week a friend asked me if I wanted to join him to go order his new kitchen at the Ikea. I always like to go to the Ikea. We wanted to go as early as possible, because it is weekend and everybody in the Netherlands go to the Ikea at a saturday. So we arrived at 10:00 in the morning. We went to the kitchen area strait away. My friend went to stand in line. When it was his turn we where set on a list and had to wait at a computer. Then the waiting started. It was now 10:30. At the moment my...

Paris on hold
posted by:
Feb 19, 2007 - May 26, 2007
I guess the key word was "artificial" in my earlier "being artificially charged in Paris."    I started to get chill coming back from Champ Elysées.  I think it's because I've walked so much since I arrived Europe, and weather had been really cold (9-15 deg) and I had just came from (38 deg) in Manila, that my body finally gave in to fatigue.  Everyone I met in France was complaining of the bad weather. It's May! we should be in T-shirts instead of coats and scarves!...

Abraham & Sarah tradition when somebody turns 50. When somebody turns 50 there is a saying that they have seen Abraham or Sarah. If it’s a man who turns 50 they say he has seen Abraham and when it’s a woman they say she has seen Sarah. To celebrate the 50th birthday of a person we decorate the frontyard of the house of this person and put a Abraham or Sarah doll in their frontyard. These dolls mostly represent something that the person in that specific case does. Like when somebody is...

Staying at the Clara Maria...

WOW!! We had so much fun staying at the Clara Maria! http://www.claramaria.nl/?lang=en  It's a charming cheese farm and clog factory southwest of Amsterdam that was just the perfect place for our family to stay and enjoy the delights of Holland. On this trip, it was my mom, dad, my husband, me and our 2 younger boys...our older son and daughter stayed in Germany because of football and homecoming events *grin*.  Anyway, upward and onward... The countryside was beautiful and I ...

Everybody thought I was crazy traveling to Amsterdam by myself.  But boy did I have fun!  I didn't know anybody when I arrived there.  Within a few hours, I had a crazy crew of 5 Irish and one Canadian new buddies.  Although the Irish guys flew in from Ireland just for the concert, the Canadian girl didn't have a clue why all of Amsterdam was dress in white.  The Irish guys found her a ticket, while I ran her over to H&M for the last available white outfit in A-da...
