To explain why I've been wining about the cold so much, a little info first. You, the reader should know The Netherlands is a coastal country with a mild sea climate. This means that we don't have extreme teperature differences throughout the seasons, unlike a continental climate would. It has been almost a decade since it was this cold. Sure, we had some snow a couple of years ago but that vanished in two or three days. Besides, it wasn't cold enough to skate on natural ice. Now, the people ...

Looking for work

Yesterday, after spending the weekend in Leiden with a large group of TravBuddies, I managed to persuade Steve to come home with me to Meppel. (I had to fight Devika over him but I won, hahaha! :-P) We travelled to Meppel by train with Wendy and got home around 7pm. The kids were dropped off, the bedtime ritual done and then Steve and I ordered in pizza and had a nice chat before going to bed. This morning things were back to the usual: getting up early with the kids, feeding and dressing th...

Amsterdam, Netherlands -› -› ...
This was my first experience with this national holiday for Holland and I can honestly say that I will travel back again sometime in the future. Despite the fact that the city came vibrantly alive during these two days, this particular experience was made that much more pleasurable because of the people I had the opportunity to celebrate with.

i am a big fan of deserted beaches, coasts in winter and autumn, although i am person who likes to goof-around - i enjoyed the melancholic moods and feelings.  me and my friend rented a bungalow in wassenaar, netherlands. for only 200+ euros a week in november! with a small kitchen, cable tv and 2 rooms.  and it is only 1 - 2 kms away from the sea and 12 kms from the hague. i love the area here in the netherlands because they didnt put breaks in the sea, which means, the waves can g...

Closest to home... Wateringen
posted by:
Dec 06, 2007 - Dec 09, 2007
The nearest village outside The Hague that is closest to my home is Wateringen.  A fine place to start therefore. Just recently I was awarded 'Travelpedian'. I was the first to describe 10 places. One of them was Wateringen. Below, I copied my entry :)Wateringen is a small village (9 square km) within the agglomeration of The Hague. Nowadays 16000 people live in Wateringen, which is part of Municipality 'Westland'. As with so many of these little villages, Wateringen also exists fo...

Amsterdam Meet-Up
posted by:

I think it would be the best to start from my last memory of the meetup in Amsterdam. I find it that Hanif Kureishi says it best in Intimacy when he opens with It is the saddest night, for I am leaving and not coming back. That thought went through my mind while I was going back to the Steyokey hostel in Amsterdam, leaving behind my new found friends at the Leidsplein, and strolling slowely behind other group of friends, trying to pass unnoticed, trying not to harm my happiness in any way. Th...

I also have a brother who is adopted, he is from the same country but he is not my biological brother. His name is Djuri and he is 20 now. I have a happy life here and I was never very into the whole adoption thing. It wasn’t ...

Amsterdam, Netherlands -› -› ...
I had breakfast again and left at 10 o’clock for the Vondelpark. It was less then a 5 minute walk. I took a lot of pictures there while walking around the park and headed back to the station. I remembered that Johan told me that there is also a flower market, which was closed last night, so I saw that first. They had really a lot of flowers there, and many, many bulbs. Then my next stop was the Spui, and slowly going to the Dam again and the station. There was a lot of noise at the station...

Beaches

Sep 24, 2007 - Oct 23, 2007
As promised to another TravBuddy, here's a photoblog of some Dutch beaches. When one thinks of the word 'Beach', quite often images of warm summerdays come to mind. However, I think a beach is beautiful year round. Therefore I will make pictures throughout the seasons and post them here. All of the photos are made in 'Scheveningen', 'Kijkduin' and 'Noordwijk'. I will update this photoblog as often as I can. Enjoy :)

Enter the P-mate, this info taken straight from the website:www.p-mate.com Every woman, young or old, will recognize one or more of the following situations in which she has to pee urgently: There's no toilet available. There is a toilet, but it is so dirty that you'd rather prefer to hold your piddle. There is no bush or secluded spot where you can bare your bottom quietly Or you are standing in front of an impenetrable brushwood. What is creeping through that penetrable brushwood? Th...

Well I wasn’t going to write a blog for this (mainly because I can’t remember half the stuff that happened!), but seeing as though most people have made an effort (some as soon as the meet-up was over i.e. Lauro and Hanie!), I thought it only fair if I documented my side of the story…:S   I think the whole trip started off on a bad note, so something (or everything in this case), was bound to go wrong! The palaver started on Wednesday evening I think, when I got a call from Wayne...
