Open Days Royal Netherlands Air Force
posted by:
Jun 20, 2003
This annual event is one of the largest happenings taking place in The Netherlands each year. In the span of two days, the Armed Forces, and more specifically, the Royal Netherlands Air Force, present themselves to the general public by providing an informative look inside and demonstrations to match the information. The Open Days provide an excellent opportunity for giving the public a look at the Royal Netherlands Air Force at work. Over the past decades, these fixed-wing and helicopter ai...

Dordrecht, my beloved city.
posted by:
Jul 03, 2008 - Jul 05, 2008
In the old famous church of Dordrecht is a lot to see, it`s very impressing, also the tower of the church is really great. I visited the tower and walked 275 steps where I had a wonderful view at Dordrecht from a height of 75 meters. The view was really great! When I was there the Carrilion player began to play his melody, he invited me in his room, so I could see how to play a Carilion. It was very heavy because he did it not with his fingers but with his fists. Then I walked the 275 ...

Highs & Lows

Leersum is a Village in the Dutch province Utrecht. It is situated at the foot of a rolling hill which was formed during the last ice age. Big gletschers pushed the soil up in front of them, thus forming a hill. The hill is called 'Utrechtse Heuvelrug' and it is a national park since 2004. Large sections of the hills are covered with woods. These woods almost disappeared by intensive logging in the early parts of the previous century. This turned the underlaying soil into sand which in it...

We arrived Schiphol, Amsterdam at 8.30 pm.  We planed to store our luggage and experience Amsterdam.  Ingvilds baggage did not arrive Amsterdam, luggage was sent to Copenhagen, so we spent 1 hour on Schiphol filling out forms and drinking coffe.  As we were visiting ICTY the next day, she had to go shopping for suitable clothes.  Shopping clothes is not a problem for Ingvild, she was rather exited  bying clothes and send the bill to Norwegian Air Shuttle.&nb...

Train to Amsterdam
posted by:
Jun 26, 2003 - Jun 29, 2003
Rob and I met up for breakfast and then checked out and stored our bags at the hotel.  We wanted to spend a bit more time in Amsterdam before heading back to Brussels. We walked over to the Waterlooplein and saw a 3D movie called 'The Holland Experience.'  It was informative, but a little corny.  Although I knew that much of the country was below sea level, I did not know that Schipol Airport was totally below sea level!  I also learned the the Netherlands is the 3rd larg...

Carnisse Grienden
posted by:
Mar 15, 2008
Situated on the river Oude Maas, an old arm of the Meuse, Barendrecht and Rhoon offer a unique natural scenery. The Carnisse Grienden are a fresh water tide landscape. The many pollard willows stand in water twice a day, at high tide. Pedestrians keep their feet dry thanks to small dikes and bridges. The area is protected and cultivated for its willow shoots. The trees are cut every three year. The willows are hosted by epifyts, plants that live on - but not at the cost of - hollow parts of t...
