Nerja Club Reviews
Well located, friendly little hotel Apr 09, 2008
Nerja has at least till now seen less development than many places on the Costa Del Sol, and accommodation is at a premium.
Hotel Club Nerja was a pleasant little 3 star hotel, and what it lacked in amenities made up for in character. The staff were all friendly and it had a 'family-run' sort of feel, with most of the staff having worked there for many years, many of the guests having returned every year and being treated like friends.
The hotel is well located with the nearest beach a short walk down a fairly steep hill, so beware the walk back up is a little more 'energetic!' There is a supermarket just across the road, and the town is easily reached within a 10 minute walk.
The rooms were basic, but comfortable and clean, with maid service on a daily basis. All rooms were en-suite and mine at least had a small balcony, able to fit two chairs on it at a squeeze, but handy for stringing out a travel line. It is possible to hire a room safe or a small fridge for the room, hire charges were reasonable and I availed myself of a one of the fridges which was extremely useful for keeping ......... chilled water of course!
There was also a laundry service in which you left your items for cleaning at picked up later at a small cost. It of course has a pool and sun loungers, and a bar, they generally had entertainment on most nights, not to my taste on the whole, it had a bit of a 'touristy' feel to it, especially the flamenco night, which lacked the kind of spontaneity with which this passionate form of dance is associated.
I had a half-board package when I booked the hotel on-line, but only had breakfast twice and evening meal once I think. Not being able to get out of bed in time, that's for breakfast of course ........... and preferring to eat out in the evening. The meals that I did have were served buffet style allowing you to help yourself and were relatively enjoyable, but I would imagine monotonous if eating there every night. Although they did change the actual content, the style was very similar.
The bar becomes a snack bar during the day, allowing guests and non-residents alike to purchase light meals.
I chatted with a number of the guests and other people drinking in the bar in the evening, as it was open to non-residents in the evening when the entertainment was on and many guests had been coming for years. I understand why and would happily stay there next time I return to Nerja .
