Neon Beach Tanning Gandoca Reviews

A fabulous place; languid, sleepy and spectacular. Getting there is far from straight-forward. You need totake asix-hour bus trip from the capital San Joséto the dusty border town of Sixaola. Thenyouget a taxi, partly along the pot-holed Route 36 and then 15 minutes down a 10km stretch of dirt track which slips through banana plantations.
The beach is gorgeous, although quite dangerous for swimming. That doesn´t mean you can play in the waves and have fun. In all, it is probably 10km long and includes a lagoon. It is also protected due the sea turtles that nest there. To get the most of the place, I would suggest you go as a volunteer (hence from March to July). You get to stay with local families and henceimprove your Spanish through necessity. The residents are friendly as many of them work with the turtle project and have improved livelihoods from this work. Go herefor more information.
There isn´t much to actually do here, which may or may not be a good thing. The bars tend to stay open late though and have films/reggae music playing to the wee hours (although quietly later on). I would also recommend the local firewater called Cahuita Rum. Now, I am not a fan of rum, but this stuff is gorgeous. If you´re lucky (or ask) one of the barflies might even machete a coconut open for you.
