Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art Reviews
An Art Museum that Rivals the Metropolitan Jun 05, 2008
I grew up in Kansas City, Missouri. I worked there, raised a family there and I played there. I love my hometown and many in my own country do not know of the art movement there.
I have traveled to many countries and I make a point of visiting the Museums everywhere I go. I can say with certainty that the Nelson Atkins Museum rivals the best of them. The ambiance of this museum is incredible. The collections are smaller, but as prestigious as many museums. They have the third largest Asian collection in the country and the art collection is astounding with several Van Gogh's and one from the Water Lilies series of Monet. The new modern addition of the modern art wing beautifully contrasts the mansion that the original museum is located in. The Henry Moore garden in front is a great place for a picnic, or a wedding. You can't go without having lunch at the Rose Court restaurant. Me and my daughters spent many Sunday afternoons here, relaxing next to the marble bowl fountain with a cup of tea and a gourmet lunch, surrounded by ancient marble pieces and pillars, covered by sunshine filtering through the ceiling. Plan a day to spend here. Small children may appreciate the art, but if tire can play in the large Henry Moore garden. Take a kite and a picnic. Don't leave Kansas City before visiting this fabulous museum. Prices , exhibits and times are here: http://www.nelson-atkins.org/ The museum is located by the Country Club Plaza. |
