Lighthouse Road, Negril, Jamaica
Negril Lighthouse Reviews
Standing white and tall Apr 29, 2011
Negril Lighthouse is the most western point of Jamaica and the lighthouse is standing white and tall on the cliff overlooking Negril. Besides being the most western point this is also the highest point on the coastline in this area.
The lighthouse was built in 1894 and at the top they put a prism that was made in Paris and originally powered by kerosene; The kerosene is today removed as a source and today it is powered by sun power.
There is 103 steps to the top but we were not able to get up there since the tower was closed; I later found out that you have to talk to the caretaker Wilson Johnson in the next door house and he gladly take you to the top for a view of the coastal, so don't forget to go and knock on the door because I imagine that the view from up there is stunning.
