Naxcivan is an Autonomous Republic in Azerbaijan. It is separated from the rest of the country by Armenia with whom Azerbaijan has had a long standing territorial dispute. It is the birthplace of the Heydar Aliev, the first president of Azerbaijan after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Many people throughout Azerbaijan look at Naxcivan as the place where great political leaders are born.

Residents of Naxcivan speak primarily Azerbaijani, but have a denoted thick accent. Turkish and Russian are also two very commonly spoken languages.
