The Navajo Bridge Visitors Center is a very nice island in a very hot desert summer. Congrats to the Federal Government, State of Arizona, and the Navajo Nation for this new and expensive free facility.
The old narrow bridge I used to drive across was 1.5 lanes wide and getting old. They replaced the old with a new bridge that is a full two lanes wide. They built facilities with running water on both sides of the bridge with large parking lots. The parking lots are connected to the old bridge...for walking only. It is a very nice scenic walk with a great view of the Colorado River about 800 feet below the bridge.
On the Navajo side the Navajo locals set up booths to sell their crafts. The blankets are good but who needs more blankets? Their jewelry is inexpensive and they will haggle on price. The jewelry is of relatively low quality and their silver tarnishes quickly. Its still good to buy for kids, or maybe find some nice silver for yourself that you will have to polish often.
Sorry TravBuddys but no pics of facility or small vendors. I was in a rush to cross this hot summer desert and just stopped for the bridge.
