Watery dining Sep 11, 2009
The Nautilus is right beside the Esplanada and as you’d expect it has an aquatic theme to the place. The atmosphere is kinda cool and we enjoy our regular Friday night drinks there as a team bonding exercise.

Ponds are scattered about the entry and fountains keep the water moving adding to the serenity and helping keep the mosquitos from breeding here I guess.

We usually crowd around a couple of bar leaners because there are a dozen or more of us but if we had half that number we could settle into the covered lounge areas on either side of the doorway.

Like every bar in Timor Leste waitresses buzz back and forth taking empties and bringing fresh orders.

Nautilus is best known for it’s fantastic steak meals. The price is a little above the typical Timor prices for a steak but these are cooked to perfection by one of the Aussie owners so there’s seldom any complaints that it’s not value for money.

Depending on what steak meal you get the price is about US$25 for you dinner, a big bottle of Bintang beer will set you back US$4.50 but as I say the place is well known as a quality restaurant and bar so it’s usually busy and you should come early or book if you plan to dine at the usual Timor time of 9.30pm. Who knows, you may even end up at the table next to the President and his guests.
