Nature Mount Pavilion Ella Reviews

Nature Mount Pavilion May 20, 2017
Ella is a small town in the Sri Lanka mountains. Very picturesque. The best thing for them was having a railway station. That railroad is the main blood line for this people. No matter that trains are slow moving on this 100 year old rail, they are still the fastest transportation option. Rail Station is on the top of the town. It is fairly easy to move downhill with your backpack, but try to catch some tuk tuk on your way back. Tuk Tuks are trying to overprice double or more, but town is very small and you don’t need them if your place is not really far. Rule should be that you can get anywhere for 100 rupies, but they will try to get 400…

We had some general idea of where our hotel Nature Mount Pavilion is located. On the map, it was fairly easy to get there because there were only two streets going through that area, BUT, Pavilion was not on neither of them… After asking around and trying to find the name of the hotel on the advertising boards that are beatifying every corner, we finally stumbled upon this place. It is a two story building that was purposely made to host visitors. In Ella, everyone is trying to get the part of the cake called tourism. Some are doing it right, some are copying and most of the “entrepreneurs” have no idea what they are doing, but they know that there is some money in it.

This place looks like family business, and they had this land on the hill that you could built on. They made few rooms with the FANTASTIC view and then they stopped. Rooftop is unfinished, and now it serves as a “restaurant” but I would not dare to try their food. Two guys that work there have very limited “kitchen” and it does not look like they can make anything. For food, just walk to the main road and indulge in one of the fantastic restaurants. There are modern eateries and other smaller and more local comfort food places all over. Beer is fairly priced in most of the places so you don’t need to stock up on your room stack…

Our room had two beds placed together and additional bed on the side in one spacious room. Windows are everywhere which is a bit issue for the people that would like extra privacy. The balcony is the only way to get in the room and you share it with anyone that wants to go that way… Heavy curtains cover the outside world a bit, so you could be fine. The great thing about this balcony is that you can enjoy in incredibly beautiful view of Ella Gorge and gorgeous light in the morning and evening.

Bathroom is fine, also spacious, but don’t expect lots of hot water or much of the water pressure. Room is very clean. The guys that work here are nice and welcoming. Price on the whole room was around 20$ per day which is very good for the time of the year.

Bus station is just some 200 meters away, so that transportation is easy. There are no schedules anywhere, so you’ll have to ask around.

Beautiful little town, alright place to get “stuck” for a week. There is lots of places to visit or things to see. Nice base for exploring the area.
