Natural Sand Bath Center Ibusuki Reviews
Onsen and a natural sand bath in Ibusuki! Oct 06, 2010
The Natural Sand Bath Center (also known as "Saraku") in Ibusuki, is well-known for their sand baths at Yunohama Beach, heated naturally by hot springs that surface close to the ground.
It is a modern facility nicknamed 'Saraku' by the locals ('saraku' has two meanings: to walk around and to enjoy the sand).
Pay 1000yen for the sandbath with yukata rental + towel and access to the indoor bath and sauna.
Directions on how to do a sand bath:
After paying, head to the locker room and change into your yukata. Bring the towel with you and follow the signs that will lead you out to the boardwalk and down to the shaded sandy beach area. Slippers are provided before you step out onto the board walk and needs to be remove prior to stepping in the sand bath area. Staff will show you to a spot to lie down, arrange your yukata to fully cover unmentionable areas and use the towel to cover your head and hair from the sand. Relax as the staff shovel heated black sand to cover you as you are buried from your neck to your feet. [You can leave anytime you like, but recommended time is at least 10-15 minutes]. Enjoy!
After the sand bath, follow the sign to the indoor baths, dispose your yukata into a bin and rinse sand off before entering the bath area. In the bath area, fully wash yourself before entering the onsen baths. A sauna is also available.
