Attending a Liturgy Oct 05, 2017
Nativity of Christ Cathedral is the main church of Syeverodonetsk and Starobilsk Diocese. We attended a liturgy on Christmas and got blessing from Bishop Nicodim who heads the activities of the diocese.

The cathedral was built on people’s donations in 2000. It has fourteen gilded domes and a unique architectural design. The remains of St.Paraskeva (1867-1942), a locally revered Russian saint, are kept in the right nave of the cathedral. St.Paraskeva the Blessed Nun (October 27, 1867-October 30, 1942) is the patron saint of the Diocese of Syeverodonetsk and Starobilsk. On October 6, 2014, she was canonized as a locally revered saint of the Russian Orthodox Church. Her official church name is St.Paraskeva the Blessed Nun and the Confessor, Fool-for-Christ. A lot is known about the life of the Blessed Nun today. This knowledge was kept by the people in their stories and reminiscences. Those people were witnesses or participants in her amazing deeds and sagacity, a feat for the salvation of human souls for the Lord. She showed her unusual gift at the age of three. At twelve she left her home and became a nun in Starobilsk at Holy Sorrows Convent. The full name of the monastery is Russian Orthodox Church Convent of Our Lady, The Joy of All Who Sorrow. After the convent was closed down by the Bolsheviks in 1924, Paraskeva became a wandering nun, helped people by her consolations, was persecuted, exiled, came secretly back and spent the last years of her life in the city of Lissichansk where she reposed in the fall of 1942 during the Nazi invasion. On October 30, 2008, her body was discovered incorrupt. Her body is kept in Nativity of Christ Cathedral in Syeverodonetsk in the right nave in a special sarcophagus with an open lid and covered with glass. This is the place of veneration of the parish today. There is a special prayer to St.Paraskeva the Blessed Nun. Her feast day is October 30. Her body will soon be transferred to Starobilsk to Holy Sorrows Convent where she used to live and to serve.

You can buy a book about Her life and heavenly help at the icon store located in the left entrance to Nativity of Christ Cathedral.

Liturgy starts at 4 p.m. (in summer time at 5 p.m.). Divine liturgy in the morning starts at 7.30 a.m. daily.
