National Museum New Delhi Reviews
Impressive collection Feb 13, 2011
The National Museum in New Delhi is the largest museum of its kind in India. It houses incredible works of art which represent several thousand years worth of Indian art.
The rooms are divided very nicely into the various periods of Indian history. The vast majority of the artworks are religious. Amongst so many treasures, the key items have to be:
- the impressive collection of Shiva statues in the Bronze rooms. The statues are just amazing and it’s incredible to think they have survived for hundreds of years;
- the miniature paintings from the Mughal era. Vivid, rather small (around about a sheet of A4 Paper) but incredibly detailed;
- the artefacts that belonged to Lord Buddha himself.
The only thing about this museum is that there is too much to see. Plan your visit well before museum fatigue sets in, and try to see the key pieces before you get tired.
If you visit just one art museum in New Delhi, this should be it!
