National Museum of Bahrain Reviews
National Museum of Bahrain Mar 03, 2009
OK. I have no idea what the admission price is, and if I can find the website, I will update you. It was free when I went, but I don't know if it was meant to be or because I was with a friend of the curator!
The National Museum is fascinating. there are displays of archeological remains from Dilmun, which is from 2,500 BC, the cotton industry it had when Ancient Greece was about, Tylos, which is what Bahrain was called when Alexander the Great conquered it, and early Islam. There is also the car that the Sheik of the time drove to the first ever oil well, and all sorts of ehtnographical information about the traditional way of life on the Island. there are displays about pearl diving, weddings, and trade. there is also a wonderful room full of beautiful qu'arans, which are just amazing, and some documents from when Bahrain was a British protectorate.
I didn't get a chance to go to teh art gallery wing, but what I saw from the door looked interesting.
I would really recommend a trip to this museum.
