Books, dentures and food, great day out May 31, 2011
The National Library is a great public space that houses the personal papers of the past Prime Ministers and other Australians. The library is going through some remodeling, but it still offers access to a vast collection of books, pictures, music and other items to escape the fast paced hustle of the outside. You can even see a former PM’s false teeth. There is a behind the scenes tour which will introduce you to Charlie the robot. You can take a free tour every Thursday at 12:30 starting in the foyer. There is free wifi access throughout, but a large space on the first floor with cubicles and a place to plug in and relax. There is a very nice bookstore that sells more than just books. I liked the small café and all the outdoor seating where you can enjoy spectacular views of the lake.

There is plenty of parking around the library as well as good public transportation. Try not to bring too big of a bag because it will be subject to cloaking. The guards were very friendly and patient with me and my large oversized bag. The laptop inside saved me, so just be aware. People are pretty respectful of property and space and I felt safe in the facility. The library does close rather early some days so check their website. With that in mind, you can accomplish a lot if you set your mind to it.
