National Jewish Hospital Reviews

Aug 27, 2006
National Jewish Hospital is located a few miles east of the downtown area and is within walking distance of City Park, the Museum of Nature and Science, and the Zoo (about 2 blocks north on Colorado Blvd.)

While it is an excellet hospital it is not located in the best of all locations.  Family's trying to find a nearby hotel will have difficutly.  I would recommend hotels in the downtown area.  Do not be fooled by the hotels nearby as they are generally havens for drugs and prostitution.   The only other nearby hotel area is actually pretty far away in the Stapleton area.  Their rates may be lower but it would probably be inconvienant without a rental car.  These hotels are located off of interstate I-70 at Quebec Street and they have a large shopping area around them.

The neighborhood around the hospital is safe during the day and there are several good places to eat within walking distance.  A great quick area is 5 blocks south on Colorado Blvd where there are several chain stores including Boston Chicken, Chipolte, Thai Basil, and others.  All are cheap and quick but good.  For slightly fancier dining go back east on Colfax Ave.  (towards downtown) where you can find Goodfriends and some other places.

The #15 bus runs very frequently up and down Colfax 24hrs a day and it's pretty cheap.  At night the frequency slows down a bit but it is still accessable.   Bus information can be found at http://www.rtd-denver.com/  (The hospital is located at Colfax Ave and Colorado Blvd.)  This bus is convienant because it connects the downtown hotels with the hospital.

Taxis, as in most cities, are very easy to find around the hotels and the downtown area.

In the downtown area the US Mint is a good site, as is the Colorado State Capitol with its gold plated roof.  There is also the 16th Street mall and all of the bars and resturants in the Lodo area.

Denver has a 311 information line which can help with general information and government services and the city has a website  www.denvergov.org.  Additionally, just south of the hosptial (accross 14th street) is a fire station who would be willing to answer city questions visitors may have.  The FD's motto here is 'Seeking Oppertunities to Serve' so take them up on it.
