National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center Columbus Reviews
The American Infantryman and their history Sep 07, 2010
For those who enjoy history and in particular that of the american army this is a good way to get some basic background information. Its not an enlightening museum as its main purpose is to attract the families of the young soldiers who are graduating from basic training at Fort Benning and to help them gain a sense of pride in what their son has chosen to do with his life. That being said, there is an Imax theatre here that plays some interesting films that change frequently. Usually they revolve around the US army or columbus history. The museum is quite atrractive as i believe it is only about two years old now. And has some very innovative displays and a wealth of knowledge. I found particularly interesting the depth of information and atrifacts they had from the POW camps many of our soldiers have had to endure over the years..
If you come on the right day you may even catch a graduation ceremony as the parade ground here is used for all of those who graduate classes and or basic training from Ft. Benning. It can be an interesting and enlightening to watch as these young man full of dreams and patriotism walk across the stage as their name is called. Full of smiles and prepared to do whatever it is their nation calls upon them to do. But i must warn you, there are always many mothers in the crowd trying to hold back their tears and sobs as they think of the many dangerous situations that their young sons may find themselves in at a later date.
For a sobering view of the history of our army, or if you just feel the need to brush up on some of your american patriotism, then you will definitely want to check this place out.
