National Firearms Museum Fairfax Reviews
National Firearms Museum Jul 09, 2012
The National Firearms Museum is tucked inside the NRA headquarters in Fairfax. There are some reserved parking spots for visitors as well as plenty of open spaces in the larger lot. The museum is organized by historical era, from European guns of the 16th century through World War II and beyond. This was helpful for someone like myself who knows next to nothing about firearms. Thousands of them are on display along with other historical artefacts. Wall placards provide basic information which experts can ignore to focus on the collection.
There is a definite political bent to some of the exhibits, but nothing too overt (though keep in mind the museum is run by the National Rifle Association). I learned a lot on my visit and spent more time than originally planned. This is a good place to explore on a rainy day. I did find the lounge room with fireplace and elephant tusks a bit much, but to each their own. The exhibit of prop weapons from Hollywood films was great. Photography is permitted.
