Much more enjoyable than I thought it would be Jan 16, 2017
I didn’t realize this was an ‘immersive’ environment. After getting my ticket I walked into a room and there were large birds just walking around within a few feet of me. It was amazing how close they’d let you approach. I was glad to see animals that didn’t have a dread of humans. It was a nice reminder of how the world should be.

I paid a bit extra to be part of a Aracari feeding (it’s like a small toucan). It was nice to have it land on my hand and take a bit of seed out of it. The Aviary also offers more personalized encounters.

I talked to a few of the workers, and found out they were volunteers. I would probably volunteer here if I lived in Pittsburgh.

I was pleased to see how clean and well-organized the Aviay was. It had a tropical forest room that was warm; I would definitely buy an annual membership and spend a lot of time in that warmth, just sitting on a bench reading a book with birds flying all around me.
