Get a taste of multi-cultural Malaysia. Jul 11, 2010
Malaysian cuisine has always offered a wide spectrum owing to the melting pot of cultures. The Malay tradition remains intact with a host of ethnic groups bringing their specialities to the table.

Want to taste the spice of Malaysia? Go to Jalan Ceylon in Kuala Lumpur. One restaurant you must visit is the Bijan Restaurant. Served in a swanky, intimate ambience, the menu blends traditional recipes with fresh innovations. You’ll be spoilt for choice with a variety that spans forgotten favourites as well as intriguing new textures, along with a flavour enhancing wine list. Here, you must try the Masak Lemak Ikan, Ikan Panggang, Rendang Daging. The cherry on the icing is the Durian Cheesecake and authentic homemade ice-creams in local flavours.

Watch the age old Malay tradition come alive at Pelita Nasi Kandar, one of the largest and most famous Nasi Kandar restaurant chain in Malaysia. Nasi is Malay for rice and Kandar means yoke. Revel in this Indian Muslim dish as you step back in time to the origins of colonial Malaysia. Eat to your hearts content from fresh baskets of rice, aromatic meat and spicy vegetable curries. Salivating?

Nasi Kandar Pelita Nov 29, 2008
First food which I’ve in Malaysia was at Nasi Kandar Pelita restaurant. Someone told me that it was an old restaurant of Kuala lumpur. Nasi Kandar Pelita was nearest open air food court from our Hotel Crown princess. I think it was 10 minutes walk away from our hotel. We’ve reached Malaysia at morning so we didn’t bother for our lunch because we didn’t want to sacrifice our sleep over lunch. I was accompanied by 9 other people with me. Most of the waiters there were Indian. One, upon spotting me, came over to offer a menu. As Malaysia is an Islamic country, the food here is generally cooked without pork. It was great opportunity for me to taste different type of food at one visit because each member of my group was sharing with each other. So I’ve tasted several dishes like chicken Tikka, Daal Rooti, Boiled rice with vegetables, Fried fish, Fried Chicken, Fish curry and Biryani.

Food quality and service was good. At Nasi Kandar Pelita, I did have mango juice, which was pretty much a mango stuck in a blender, plus sugar. It was one of the best I’ve ever had. After eating the waiter gave me a bill and I went towards the counter to pay bill a man who was appointed on counter to collect the bill asked me to give bill receipt. I handed over the receipt. He started to stroke his fingers on keyboard and hilariously shaking his head. It was real fun to watch him.
