My first trip to Asia. Thanks to a summer fellowship I was able to explore japanese customs and culture far beyond the usual vaccation experience - staying for 3 months at a host university and being invited to give a talk at a conference in Tokyo were only some of the highlights.

After waking up we did sightseeing at Naruto. It is famous for its vortexes which occur in the Nruto Strait. We took a ferry trip. On the day we could not see huge vortexes but could see fairly size ones. When I see this kind of natural phenomenon, I always wish I had a brain of physics or something, to understand the cause or just to have another persopective about them.
