Best hostel in Moscow ! Feb 10, 2009

Napoleon Hostel has been voted as the best hostel in Moscow... When you first arrive, you think it's a bit pretentious. After one day, you already think that it deserves more !
There is always someone from the staff ready to help you with the smile, at any hour of the day or of the night.
The rooms, the bathroom, the kitchen and the living-room are always very clean.
The hostel is located next to one of the best night-club of Moscow, really close to the center (and just next to a metro station).
But the best thing is about people in the hostel. There's a special mood in Napoleon that makes everyone happier and friendlier than anywhere else. You came alone ? Don't worry, you'll find someone to go out without even having to ask !
So forget about any other hostel or hotel (who are way too expensive anyway). Forget about staying at friends', and, at least for one night, forget about CouchSurfing. They can all be great ways to stay in the city, but still, Napoleon Hostel is the greatest ! =)

Anyway, I think Napoleon Hostel is going to be my best hostel experience for a long long time !

This was my accomodation in Moscow. Like I said in my journal, the service largely depends on who is in charge during your stay. Most of the staff are friendly, reliable and English-speaking.

The location of the hostel makes it an ideal base from which to explore Moscow. It is just a stone's throw away from the Metro station Kitai Gorod and about 15 minutes away from Red Square and Kremlin. The main street in the neighbourhood, Ulitsa Maroseyka, is buzzing. There are plenty of restaurants (from McDonald's to bistro), shops and money exchangers around.

The hostel itself is housed on the fourth floor of an old building, which has no lift. If you are travelling with a lot of things, getting to the fourth floor can be a major task. The hostel itself is well-furnished and clean. There is a refrigirator at the reception, from which you can buy drinks, including mineral water and beer, but it is a bit pricey. The kitchen gets crowded during lunch and dinner. There are only two shower rooms, so you may have to queue for shower in morning. There are 2 PC's, which are almost always occupied. Fortunately for me, both PC's read Japanese. There is a lounge, where you can meet other travellers who are staying in the hostel. Rooms are small and crowded (during summer), so you would probably be compelled to chill out in the lounge unless you are sleeping.

hostel.   Napoleon Hostel – where Napoleon himself once stayed (in the building, not the hostel) – is on the 4 th floor of large building.   The first 3 floors are privately owned and were dirty, grimy and smelly.   Once again I asked myself – ‘Why Alex… The road to Moscow

I stayed at one of the best rated hostels in Moscow: Napoleon Hostel. It is conveniently located in an old but lively neighbourhood called Kitai Gorod. Everything from Red Square to Tverskaya Ulitsa is within walking distance. What I liked most about this hostel was that it had a lounge, where you could… Second Day in Moscow
