Naples Underground Reviews
Cool visit under Naples Mar 20, 2015
This tour is very good if your the kind of person that likes caves, tunnels, catacombs, lots of steps and very tight fissures to crawl through. There's supposedly 250+ miles of tunnels below Naples. Carved from rock by the romans, Greeks, and others. The tunnels and chambers thru the ages served as funerary catacombs, mined for stone and water storage. Visitors can pass on going through the tight squeeze areas. There are water cisterns down there and other very photogenic sites. This is interesting if you enjoy seeing what was accomplished with unlimited manpower hundreds of years ago.
Visitors are given a small lit candle in a tray. All that serves for light thru the 18"20" wide passage portion of the tour. It's a thrill for the adventurous. A hidden history of Napels, very interesting for those not claustrophobic! I was surprised and impressed with the site and the tour - it was definitely a highlight for me.
