So when I visited Sorrento, Italy we stayed at a campground to save money. It is called Village Camping Campogaio Santafortunata. I am not sure what the price is now but my friend and I spent 12 Euro a night in a platform tent. The camp ground was nice with a rock beach, pool, restaurant/bar, and bathroom facilities. Wasn't much inside but a light and 2 cots but we were on a budget. The campsite offered a boat ride/tour of the island of Capri. I highly recommend visiting the Island of Capri, it is beautiful. We went to Capri for 2 days, so we didn't spend much time in actual Sorrento unfortunately. I recommend taking a boat tour around the island as well as spending time on the island since there are cool grotto's, especially the blue grotto.
It is also only about an hour away from Pompei. We visited Pompei which was awesome, I suggest taking a tour so you can find and know what the meaningful sites are. It was amazing to be learning about the people who lived there and the technology they had so long ago.
If you want more information check out my travel blog 42 days through Europe, there is more detail on what I did while staying in Sorrento for 4 days.
