Off to Nanning to get our Vietnam visa.
Well, eventually.
Going against everything I believe in,
we boarded an overnight train to Shanghai, having nowhere to stay and
no ticket out. We arrived shortly after 7am and stumbled into the
ticket office, praying that there was a train to Nanning …

"Would you like your dog with rice or noodles Sir?" Nanning is not a touristy place but is famous for its dog dishes - that it dishes made of dog, so eating here was always going to be interesting. In fact we managed to avoid dog and managed a good meal of beef, pork and some form of Asian veg; our…

People i met here, who contributed to and improved my trip: Juliana (Russia)
We spent most of the day lazing around our hostel in Guilin and on the train to Nanning. The highlight of this journey was a woman who had several live chickens in a box on the luggage rack and a bag of live fish on her l…

I arrived in Nanning at night. After my long train ride I just wanted to check into a hotel and figure out how to get to Hanoi as soon as possible. China had gotten old and the excitement was gone. I found a hotel right across the street from the train station. The ladies there spoke English well, …

We made it to China doing the epic journey from Hanoi to Hong Kong by train, not for the faint hearted! We started off in a race against time to catch our train. It took us a while to find a taxi driver who knew where the station is (a contradiction in terms surely!) and when we got in, he rang som…

After a long lie in we got up
and discussed the days itinerary. Though Nanning is big in the sense of
money and shops it seems small in terms of exploration. We had been
given a map from reception which had little detail or depth to show
what was around but it did show the train station so that…

So, last stop in China.
We arrived in Nanning around 8pm,
emerging into a sleepy looking town after dark. We found our hostel
with a bit of difficulty, it had a different name above the door! We
checked into a triple room for a very reasonable 50Y each and got the
elevator up to our floor.…
