Nampa Overview

Nampa sits astride Highway 2 less than 20 miles South of the major settlement of Peace River.

Like so many other communities in this region, Nampa only really came into existence in the early 20th century when the railway was driven through in 1916. This opened up huge opportunities for the agricultural industry which still dominates the area to this day. Nampa was originally rather prosaically known as Tank in reference to the railway water tank here but in 1924 it was decided something else was required and the current name, which similarly prosaically means "the place" in aboriginal, was decided upon.

It is a clean and tidy little village albeit there is not much to see or do certainly but it is a pleasant place to stop off for a leg stretch on the long Highway North.
