Nakkebølle Faaborg Reviews
Former sanatorium Jul 13, 2014
Nakkebølle is a place one of a kind. It is situated in a former sanatorium, where people suffering from tuberculosis were treated, in a large beautiful park area next to Nakkebølle Fjord.
During over 100-years of its existence, it became a home for 10,000 refugees in the years 1990-96. In 1998 the buildings were restored and converted to create the perfect natural setting for a modern school and a training centre. Nowadays, this place take cares for people, especially children, who come from disturbed and dysfunctional environment and require care and education to get ahead in life. Some parts of the buildings have been transformed into a guest accommodation.
The entire complex is made up of high and spread out buildings with pleasant and simple facades.
We booked our twin room here for only one night. The room was located on the first floor in the left wing of the building. This entire section of the building is the guest accommodation with private common area, shared toilets and showers.
The room was specious with a simplistic decoration. Minimal amount of furniture occupied the space - 2 beds, wardrobe, a desk and a couple of chairs. It seemed a comfortable arrangement for a short stay.
Common area, which in the morning serves also as a breakfast room, is divided in two sections – lounge with sofas and a TV, and a dining area with tables and chairs. All around the area, including the corridor, many African- style sculptures are displayed which give a homely feel to this place.
Shared bathrooms are on the opposite side of the corridor to shared toilets. Both very clean and with extra decorations.
The place offers breakfast which is served at the time convenient for the guests. We requested ours to be served for 8am, and the breakfast was served before the actual time. Excellent service.
It consisted of a selection of fresh breads and rolls, cheese, cold meat, boiled eggs, cereal, jams and preserves, juices and tea/coffee. The bread, just like everything else, was deliciously yummy. Great start to the day.
Free parking is offered here, and since the place is a little secluded, there is no issues with parking.
Cleanliness – we found nothing wrong with this place; clean and tidy.
Overall experience – we loved the calmness and relaxing atmosphere this place offers – the only view from the window is the extensive park; it is a little distance (18km) to Faaborg from here, but it does not feel as inconvenience in the slightest; I am confident to come back here again.
Price per room per night - about €60.
