NY Habitat Oct 29, 2009
Hotel rooms can be pricey in any city and New York is no exception. I
would try taking a look at renting an apartment for short term. NY
Habitat is a site I looked at recently when renting an apartment in
Paris for the week. It worked out than an apartment ran us about $100
USD a day while a decent hotel would have been double that and wouldn't
have been equipped with a kitchen, washer, etc. I think apartment
rentals are the way to go if you want to experience a city among the
locals. NY Habitat operates out of a variety of cities and is definitely worth looking into if you're not just passing through! Representatives from the company also got back to me very quickly when I was inquiring about rental properties.

Myself and my 16 year old daughter recently travelled to NYC for a week long sight seeing holiday. Not being able to afford a decent Manhattan Hotel I trawled the internet looking for suitable alternatives & found www.nyhabitat.com
We booked a week in a Brooklyn duplex to share with the owners. We had the most fantastic stay ever! The apartment was fab and the owners so open and friendly, they made us feel right at home. Williamsburg -Bedford Avenue was a real GEM of an area - full of funky shops, 2nd hand clothing warehouses, bars and little cafes!!
We probably spent more time in Brooklyn than Manhattan!
I would definitely recommend!!!

We had a wonderful vacation. Many thanks to NewYork Habitat for the smooth process. The apartment was spacious for a family of 5 adults and three children. It is located very close to the metro stations from where getting to a RER or TGV train station is a 15 minute ride. We could travel within France and to neighboring Switzerland easily. With assitance from NY Habitat, we were able to take possession of and hand back the apt to the owner smoothly. We are completely satisfied and would recommend this to others as well. Perhaps it would also help to include rentals for shorter periods (say, 2-3 days) in France (Paris), Lucern, and Interlaken (Switzerland).
>
> I have one request, though: The owner urged that I purchase insurance to cover her apt from fire and flood. You would understand this not the same as the travellers insurance that covers lost luggage / travel interruption. In the US, the owner has an insurance that covers such catastrophy, even for the investment properties that are rented out. Unfortunately, the insurance that covers our primary residence in the US is not valid abroad. None of the US insurance cos were willing to sell a renter's insurance for vacation rentals abroad. We were able to locate an insurance agent (through NewYork Habitat) in France that was willing to sell a damage insurance for renters. This information, perhaps need to be presented more clearly to vacationers like us and the owners abroad need to be informed as well.

I had been searching for a hotel in Paris for a 5 day stay with 2 adults and 2 teens. Everything was tiny and expensive. Then my cousin recommended that I check out NY Habitat for a Paris rental. What a great place! I was able to see pictures on line and easily book our apartment rental. Details about how to proceed were clear and easy. The person we rented from was easy to deal with and communicate with. Our apartment was in the perfect spot. We were able to walk out of the courtyard and right to the restaurants, subway, and tourist attractions we were there to see. The apartment was exactly as described. I felt like we had good value for the money spent. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to travel.

I booked an apartment through New York Habitat for my last vacation in Paris in March. I was assigned an agent who was very pro-active and helped me choose the apartment, the booking process was quick and easy, and most of all the apartment was just like the description on the Internet, the owner was very friendly and showed me the neighborhood. I really had a great stay. It was much more comfortable than staying in a hotel, and cheaper too. I could save money cooking "home" rather than having to go to restaurants all the time. They also have rentals in the South of France, New York and in London. Since I regularly go to these places I certainly will book with nyhabitat.com again. Highly recommended!!!
