NH Hotel De Ville Groningen Reviews
Hospitality with a northern touch Aug 30, 2011
Very nice hotel, warm welcome, very helpful staff, lovely art deco interior, and a great breakfast buffet.
We arrived right after noon, ofcourse we did not expect our rooms to be ready but to our surprise the staff at the reception desk aplogized for only 1 room to be ready. We on the contrary were very pleased we could put our luggage in one of our own rooms already, which were on the third floor, and freshen up a bit before exploring town. The hotel has several elevators so the rooms were easy to reach.
The staff was very helpful to hand us a map and point out some places of interest. Later that day, when we were thinking on where to go for dinner, again they were very helpful in their advice for restaurants.
The rooms were nice, with enough space to put clothes and luggage, a desk, some chairs, big mirror, and heavy curtains to keep the light out. Telephone, safe and minibar are in every room, as well as a nice assortment of sweets and chocolates. I did not like the bed, too hard to my liking, and it also had to do that spring-matresses are not my favorite. (My sister liked it though). The bathroom was not too big, but more than sufficient, and I liked the design of the washbasin.
Breakfast in a hotel is always a highlight, the feeling you don't have to care for it yourself is ever so nice! Although you have to fill your plate yourself, we did not mind with all these delicious goodies we could choose from, watched closely by the staffso it was replenished as soon as necessary or even sooner. Pitchers with fruitjuices and milk, several types of yoghurt, a nice fruitbasket, fresh fruit salad, compotes, a wide range in plain and sweet bread varieties, scrambled and boiled eggs, sausages and bacon, and ofcourse the butter, margarine, honey and jams, but also the dutch chocolate vermicelli and candy sprinkles. Hot chocolate, coffee and tea for a warm drink. Morning papers in a stand around the corner, yeah, day starts great with this kind of breakfast.
Check out of the hotel was also easy going, we did not have to pay before we left; and even then we could leave our luggage; it was labeled and stored for us until we picked it up at late afternoon.
